Privacy policies have a reputation for being long, stiff, and hard to finish. I would like this one to be different. Bia Flavors is a baking site, so most of what happens here involves recipes, comments, and the occasional newsletter, and this page explains in plain language what data comes along with all of that. I have kept the wording as clear as I can while still covering everything the law asks for.
By using Bia Flavors, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the site.
Our Policy on Children Under 13
Bia Flavors is a general baking site, and it is not intended for children under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and I do not direct any part of the site to them. This follows the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has sent me personal information through a form, comment, or newsletter signup, please email me at contact@biaflavors.com. I will delete that information as quickly as I can. If I learn that I have collected data from a child under 13 without a parent’s consent, I will remove it.
Comments, Likes, and Social Media
When you leave a comment on a recipe, the comment itself, your name, your email address, and your IP address are stored so I can reply and moderate the discussion. Your name and comment text are usually visible to other visitors. Your email address is not shown publicly.
If you follow, share, or interact with Bia Flavors on social media, that activity is handled by the social platform under its own privacy policy. I may see your public username, comments, and messages on those platforms, and I treat them the same way I treat messages sent through the site. Anything you post publicly on social media or in a comment can be seen, copied, and shared by others, so please think before posting personal details.
The Information You Hand Over and the Information I Pick Up
There are two kinds of information Bia Flavors may collect.
Personal information you choose to give me:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number or mailing address, if you share them in a message or for a giveaway or collaboration
- Payment details, if you ever buy something sold directly on the site (payments are handled by third-party payment processors, and I do not store full card numbers)
- The content of any message, comment, or review you send
Information collected automatically when you visit:
- Your IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device type
- Your internet service provider
- Date and time stamps of your visit
- The pages you view and the page that referred you to Bia Flavors
This information reaches me in a few ways: when you fill out the contact form, post a comment, subscribe to the newsletter, or make a purchase, and automatically through server log files, Google Analytics, and cookies.
Server Log Files
Like most websites, Bia Flavors uses log files. Every time a page is requested, the web server records standard details such as IP address, browser type, ISP, date and time stamps, referring and exit pages, and the number of clicks. This data is not linked to information that can identify you personally. It is used to understand traffic, spot problems, and administer the site.
Cookies, and Not the Edible Kind
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device. They let a site remember things about your visit, like your comment details or whether you have seen a notice before. Bia Flavors uses cookies to keep the site working properly, to understand which recipes people read, and to improve your experience.
You can disable or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Each browser does this a little differently, so check its help section for steps. Keep in mind that turning cookies off may stop some features, such as comment forms that remember your name, from working as expected.
Web Beacons, Pixels, and Tags
Bia Flavors and its third-party partners may use web beacons (also called pixels or tags). These are tiny pieces of code that count visits, measure how content performs, and recognize returning visitors. They are mainly used for analytics today, and they may also support advertising or social media features if I add them in the future. Many work together with cookies, so changing your cookie settings can affect them too.
How Bia Flavors Uses Google Analytics
Bia Flavors uses Google Analytics to learn how visitors find and use the site, for example which recipes are most popular and how long people stay. Google Analytics collects information such as your IP address, device details, and pages visited, using cookies and similar technologies. You can read how Google handles that data at https://policies.google.com/privacy. Google also offers a browser add-on that lets you opt out of Google Analytics tracking.
What I Do With Your Information
I use the information collected through Bia Flavors to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the site and its recipes
- Reply to your comments, questions, and messages
- Provide customer service
- Send newsletters and other updates you have signed up for
- Personalize your experience and understand what baking content you enjoy most
- Run marketing and promotions
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, spam, and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
Newsletter and Email Practices
If you subscribe to the Bia Flavors newsletter, I will use your email address to send new recipes, baking tips, and occasional site news. I follow the CAN-SPAM Act. Emails will clearly identify me as the sender, will not use misleading subject lines, and will include a working unsubscribe link in every message. I honor unsubscribe requests promptly, and no later than 10 business days.
Opting Out
You can opt out of marketing communications at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter or by emailing contact@biaflavors.com. You can also ask me to stop using your information for other purposes, and I will do so unless I need to keep it for legal reasons. Opting out of marketing emails does not stop messages that relate directly to a request you have made, such as a reply to your question.
Affiliate Links and Amazon Associates
Some baking tools, ingredients, and equipment mentioned on Bia Flavors may link to products on other sites. I participate in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. If you click one of these links and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products I would actually use in my own kitchen. These affiliate partners may place cookies on your device when you click through, and their handling of your data is covered by their own privacy policies.
Advertising Partners, Now and Later
Bia Flavors may work with third-party advertising partners now or in the future. These partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites, and to show you ads based on your interests. This is often called interest-based or personalized advertising.
You can opt out of personalized advertising from many participating companies through the Network Advertising Initiative at https://optout.networkadvertising.org and the Digital Advertising Alliance at https://optout.aboutads.info. Opting out does not remove ads altogether. It means the ads you see may be less relevant to you.
Links to Other Websites
Bia Flavors sometimes links to other websites, such as ingredient suppliers, fellow bakers, or tool retailers. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. I do not control them and I am not responsible for how they collect or use your information. Please read the privacy policy of any site you visit after leaving this one.
Embedded Content From Elsewhere
Pages on Bia Flavors may include embedded content such as YouTube videos, Pinterest pins, Instagram posts, or images and articles from other websites. Embedded content behaves the same way as if you had visited the original site. These sources may collect data about you, use cookies, add their own tracking, and monitor how you interact with the content, especially if you are logged in to an account with them.
When Information Is Shared
I do not sell your personal information for money. I may share information in these situations:
- Service providers: Trusted companies that help run Bia Flavors, such as web hosting, email newsletter tools, analytics, and form plugins, may process data on my behalf. They may use it only to provide their services to me.
- Legal reasons: I may disclose information if required by law, court order, or a valid request from a public authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Bia Flavors, its visitors, or others.
- Business transfers: If Bia Flavors is ever sold, merged, or transferred, your information may be passed on to the new owner, who would be expected to honor this policy.
How Long Information Is Kept
I keep information only as long as it is needed for the purposes described here. Comments and their details are kept indefinitely so I can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Newsletter subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe. Contact form messages are kept for as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping. Server logs and analytics data are kept for limited periods. You can ask me to delete your information at any time, as explained below.
Keeping Your Data Safe
I use reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect the information collected on Bia Flavors from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. These include secure hosting and access controls. Still, no method of transmitting data over the internet or storing it electronically is 100% secure. I cannot guarantee absolute security, and you share information with the site at your own risk.
Your Rights Under the GDPR
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you these rights:
- Access: Ask for a copy of the personal data I hold about you
- Rectification: Ask me to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure: Ask me to delete your personal data
- Restriction: Ask me to limit how your data is used
- Objection: Object to my processing of your data, including for direct marketing
- Portability: Ask for your data in a portable format you can take elsewhere
- Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent at any time, where I rely on it to process your data
- Complaint: Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority
To use any of these rights, email contact@biaflavors.com. My legal bases for processing your data include your consent, my legitimate interest in running and improving Bia Flavors, and compliance with legal obligations.
Your Rights Under the CCPA
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you these rights:
- Right to know: Ask what personal information I have collected about you, where it came from, why it is used, and who it is shared with
- Right to delete: Ask me to delete personal information I have collected from you, with some legal exceptions
- Right to opt out of sale: Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Bia Flavors does not sell personal information for money, but if you want to make a “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” request, you can send one to the email below
- Right to non-discrimination: You will not be treated differently for exercising any of these rights
I will respond to verified requests within one month. I may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
If This Policy Changes
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to Bia Flavors, new laws, or better practices. When I do, I will post the updated version on this page and change the effective date below. By continuing to use Bia Flavors after an update, you accept the revised policy. It is your responsibility to check this page now and then to stay informed.
