Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

These Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins are soft, moist, and packed with sweet banana flavor and melty chocolate chips. They’re easy to make, bakery-style muffins perfect for breakfast, snacks, or a quick dessert.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups + 2 tbsp 205g bread flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon optional
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg optional
  • 1 1/2 cups 354g very ripe mashed bananas
  • 1/2 cup 100g granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup 50g light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp 28g unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/4 cup 50g vegetable or canola oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Add-ins
  • 1 cup 170g semisweet chocolate chips
  • Coarse sugar optional, for topping

Method
 

  1. Prepare oven & pan
  2. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line muffin tin with paper liners.
  3. Mix dry ingredients
  4. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices in a bowl.
  5. Mix wet ingredients
  6. In another bowl, mash bananas and whisk with sugars, butter, oil, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  7. Combine
  8. Add wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  9. Fill muffin cups
  10. Divide batter evenly, filling each cup 3/4 full. Sprinkle coarse sugar on top if desired.
  11. Bake
  12. Bake for 14–15 minutes or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  13. Cool & serve
  14. Cool for 5–10 minutes in pan, then transfer to rack. Serve warm or store.

Notes

Do not overmix batter. Use very ripe bananas for best flavor. Start baking at high heat for tall muffin tops.
